How does a First Nation match governance with their culture and traditions?
Use culture and tradition as its guide. Structure governance to reflect who we are. The present system of Chief and Council was not our chosen form of governance it was forced on us. We need to explore traditional forms of governance and develop somethnig that is culturally true to our identity.
So what is the traditional governance system in your culture? I've been thinking a lot about this sort of issue since the tragedy in Norway. CBC interviewed someone from Europe who the killer had mentioned in his writings and she was going on about maintaining the cultural identity for Europeans. What a load of brain dead hogwash I thought, not like the Europeans cared much about maintaining other cultures'identities when they went out "discovering" and "colonizing" and exploiting the rest of the world.
